45 minute timer

Forty-five minutes is about as long as most people can hold one task before attention slips, which is why so many lessons and focus sessions are cut to it.

The short answer

Forty-five minutes is the length of many school lessons and a common length for a short exam paper or a focused work block. Press Start and the frame turns amber at nine minutes left, which leaves time to finish and check, then the alarm sounds at zero.

How to use it

Three steps to a timer on the wall

  1. Step 1: Choose a time

Pick a preset or set your own. The timer remembers what you used last on this device.

  2. Step 2: Press start

Start the timer, then press F or the fullscreen button to fill the screen.

  3. Step 3: Run the room

Space pauses, the up arrow adds a minute, R resets. Fullscreen shows the timer alone, with no ads and no navigation.

Running it well

Four things worth knowing

  • Use amber to check your work

Nine minutes before the end, the frame changes colour. In a practice paper, that is when to stop answering new questions and check the ones you have.

  • For a real exam, use the exam clock

The exam clock shows the start and finish times beside the time left, with an optional reading period, which is what candidates need on the board.

  • Take a break between blocks

Two forty-five-minute blocks with ten minutes between them are easier to sustain than ninety minutes straight.

  • Keep a laptop from sleeping

The page asks the browser to keep the screen awake while the timer runs, so a long block on a projector is not interrupted by a screensaver.

In the room

Built to be read from the back row

A timer that only works on the person running it is not doing the job. The digits scale to the screen, the colour changes before the end, and fullscreen shows nothing else at all.

No ads on your big screen

Ads pay for this page, and they stay on this page. The moment the timer goes fullscreen there is nothing on screen but the time — no banners, no navigation, no surprises in front of a room.

  • Fullscreen shows the timer alone
  • Ad sounds can never clash with the alarm
  • Saved times stay on your device — no account

FAQ

Questions people ask

Anything we've missed?

How long is a school lesson?

It varies by school and country, but many lessons run 40 to 60 minutes, and 45 is a common length.

Can I show it on a projector?

Yes. Press F for fullscreen and the countdown fills the screen, with no ads and no navigation.

Can I add extra time?

Yes. Press the up arrow or the + 1 min button while it runs to add a minute.

Does it keep time if I switch tabs?

Yes. It reads the system clock rather than counting ticks, so a background tab does not make it drift.
