Women Safety: Flashlight SOS · Effective 1 October 2026

Kelvin is a women safety app and a flashlight for Android. It has no account, no analytics of our own and no server. The light needs no permissions and sends nothing. Safety SOS keeps your emergency contacts on your phone, and it reads your location during an SOS only if you switch that on. The app never sends a message by itself: it opens your own SMS app or WhatsApp, and you press Send. The free version shows one banner ad, served by Google. This page says exactly what that means.

What we collect

Nothing. We receive no personal data, no usage analytics, no crash reports and no location. Kelvin has no account and no server of its own.

What the app asks for

The torch, strobe, Morse and screen light ask for no runtime permissions, so Android never shows you a prompt for them. Kelvin lights the LED through Android’s torch API (CameraManager.setTorchMode), which does not open the camera and does not need the camera permission.

Location, only if you turn it on. Kelvin asks for location only when you switch on Send my location in Safety SOS setup, and only while the app is in use. It reads your location only while an SOS is active, and only to put a map link into the message you send. It is never read in the background, never stored by the app and never sent to us. You can withdraw it at any time in Android’s settings; SOS keeps working, without the map link.

Kelvin does not ask for SMS, call, contacts, camera, microphone or storage permissions. You pick emergency contacts through Android’s own contact picker, which hands the app only the one contact you choose.

Android also lists permissions it grants without asking: internet and network state (for the ad banner), the Advertising ID (see below), billing (for Pro), and one that only lets the app receive its own internal messages. The app’s Permissions screen, under Settings, lists what it holds and opens Android’s settings page for the app so you can check.

What stays on your phone

Your settings and your Safety SOS setup — up to three emergency contacts’ names and phone numbers, and your SOS switches — are stored on your phone, in storage only Kelvin can read. They never leave it unless you send them yourself, we cannot read them, and uninstalling the app deletes them.

Safety SOS messages

When an SOS starts, Kelvin opens your SMS app, or WhatsApp if you tap it, with a help message addressed to your emergency contacts. If you switched on location, the message includes a Google Maps link with your coordinates and their accuracy. You can read, change or cancel the message before sending it. Once you send it, your carrier or WhatsApp delivers it under their own privacy policies, and the people you sent it to can see it, the link included.

When you add a contact, the app offers to open a message telling them, with a link to Kelvin. That message, too, is sent only if you send it.

Advertising

The free version shows one banner, at the top of the light screen. It is never shown on the full-screen light.

The banner is served by Google AdMob. To serve it, Google’s ad library connects to Google and reads your device’s Advertising ID, your IP address and basic device information, to serve, limit and measure the ad. Google’s use of that data is covered by Google’s own privacy policy: policies.google.com/technologies/ads. You can reset or delete your Advertising ID in your phone’s settings, under Privacy → Ads. Your emergency contacts and your location are never given to the ad library.

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google’s consent message is shown before any ad is requested. Settings has an Ad privacy choices entry so you can change your answer at any time.

Kelvin Pro

Pro is a one-time purchase made through Google Play. When you own Pro, the ad library is never started, so the app shows no ads. We do not see or store your card or payment details. The app asks Google Play whether your account owns Pro, so it can turn the ads off on a new phone as well.

Network

Apart from the ad banner and Google Play’s purchase check, Kelvin makes no network requests. The light and Safety SOS work offline: an SOS text needs mobile signal, not data, and your location can come from GPS with no data.

Kelvin opens something outside itself only when you tap it or start an SOS: your SMS app, WhatsApp, the phone dialler, the Play Store listing, your phone’s settings or the share sheet. Each is governed by its own privacy policy. We are not told that you tapped, and we receive nothing back.

Children

Kelvin is not directed at children. In the free version, Google’s ad library reads the Advertising ID as described above, whoever is using the phone.

Your rights

Laws such as the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA and India’s DPDP Act give you rights over your personal data. We hold none about you: your settings and contacts never leave your phone, and we run no server. For data held by Google to serve ads, use Google’s own controls or the Ad privacy choices entry in the app. Uninstalling Kelvin deletes everything the app stored.

Changes

If a future version collects anything more, we will update this page, change the effective date and say so in the app before it does.
