Online countdown timer with an alarm

Type a time or tap one, press Start, and walk away. The time left shows in the tab title, and the alarm is set on your computer's audio clock so it rings on time even in a background tab.

FreeFullscreen, no ads

The short answer

To set a countdown, type the minutes and seconds or tap a preset, then press Start or the space bar. The frame turns amber when a fifth of the time is left, the last ten seconds pip, and the alarm sounds at zero. If you might be in another room, choose "Loud bell, until stopped": it rings every three seconds until you press a key or tap, for up to two minutes.

How to use it

Three steps to a timer on the wall

  1. Step 1: Choose a time

Pick a preset or set your own. The timer remembers what you used last on this device.

  2. Step 2: Press start

Start the timer, then press F or the fullscreen button to fill the screen.

  3. Step 3: Run the room

Space pauses, the up arrow adds a minute, R resets. Fullscreen shows the timer alone, with no ads and no navigation.

Running it well

Four things worth knowing

  • It rings on time in a background tab

Browsers slow down pages you are not looking at, which makes many web timers ring late. This one reads the clock rather than counting ticks, and hands the alarm to the audio clock when you press Start, so switching to other work does not delay it.

  • Choose the alarm for where you will be

A soft chime is enough at a desk. In the kitchen or another room, pick "Loud bell, until stopped" so a single ring cannot be missed. Press "Play the alarm now" first to check the volume.

  • Glance at the tab, not the page

While the timer runs, the tab title shows the time left, so you can keep working in another tab and still see how long is left without switching back.

  • Keep a phone's screen on

The page asks the browser to keep the screen awake while the timer runs. If a phone locks anyway, it may pause the sound, so on a phone leave the page open and the screen on.

In the room

Built to be read from the back row

A timer that only works on the person running it is not doing the job. The digits scale to the screen, the colour changes before the end, and fullscreen shows nothing else at all.

No ads on your big screen

Ads pay for this page, and they stay on this page. The moment the timer goes fullscreen there is nothing on screen but the time — no banners, no navigation, no surprises in front of a room.

  • Fullscreen shows the timer alone
  • Ad sounds can never clash with the alarm
  • Saved times stay on your device — no account
  • Works with an ad blocker, and offline once loaded
FAQ

Questions people ask

Anything we've missed?

How do I set a timer for a specific time?

Type the minutes and seconds in the boxes under the timer, or tap a preset, then press Start. Anything from one second to 600 minutes, which is ten hours, can be set.

Will the alarm go off if I switch to another tab?

Yes. The alarm is scheduled on the audio clock when you press Start, and browsers do not slow that down in background tabs the way they slow page timers. On a phone, keep the screen on: a locked phone can pause the sound.

Can the alarm keep ringing until I stop it?

Yes. Choose "Loud bell, until stopped" in the sound menu. At zero it rings every three seconds until you press any key or tap the screen, and stops by itself after two minutes.

Does it work offline?

Once the page has loaded, yes. The timer and its sounds run in your browser and need no connection.

Are there ads on the timer?

Not in fullscreen. Press F or the fullscreen button and the screen shows the countdown alone. Ads appear only on the page around it.

Can I save the times I use most?

Yes. Press "Save this time" and it appears under My times on that device. Nothing is sent anywhere and there is no account.
