The short answer

To play bingo on Zoom or Teams, make the game here, send players the Play on phones link, and share your screen with the caller open. Each player's phone deals its own card and shows its card number. When someone calls bingo, type their number into Check a card and the win is confirmed on screen for everyone.

How it works

From list to a game in four steps

  1. Step 1: Make the game

Pick a theme — the video call pack is a good icebreaker — or use numbers for a classic game.

  2. Step 2: Send the player link

Copy it into the meeting chat. Each person who opens it gets their own card on their phone, with a card number.

  3. Step 3: Share the caller

Open Call the game and share that tab. It calls at random and reads each call aloud, so everyone hears it.

  4. Step 4: Check wins by number

When someone claims bingo, type their card number. The caller rebuilds their card and shows what they matched.

How to win

Winning patterns, from quickest to longest

Standard US bingo uses 75 balls on a 5×5 card with a free centre; UK bingo and Tambola use 90. Pick the pattern before the first call.

Bingo winning patterns
PatternWhat completes itUse it for
LineFive in a row across, down or corner to corner. The free square counts. The standard first prize, and the fastest game
Four cornersThe four corner squares, nothing else.A quick extra round, or a small prize
Two linesAny two complete lines on the same card.A second prize after the first line is won
XBoth diagonals, which cross at the free square.A mid-length game
BlackoutEvery square on the card. Also called a coverall or full card. The last and biggest prize of the night

Calls until the first winner

Measured, not guessed: these are the median results of 200 games per row, dealt by the same engine that makes your cards, with every card checked after each call.

A longer word list makes a longer game: with only 24 words every card holds the same words, and the first line falls after about 8 calls. At one call every ten seconds, a 75-ball blackout takes around 11 minutes.

Four things worth knowing

  • Share the tab, not the whole screen

Sharing just the caller tab keeps notifications and other windows off everyone's screen, and in most video apps it also shares the tab's audio so the voice calls come through.

  • Players use a second device

The card is easiest on a phone held beside the laptop, so the video call stays full-size. It also works in a second browser tab.

  • Slow the auto-caller down

Video adds a second or two of delay. Eight to twelve seconds a call gives everyone time to hear, find and tap.

  • Ask winners to hold up their phone too

The number check is the proof, but seeing the card on camera makes the moment for everyone else on the call.

No accounts, no player data

Cards and the PDF are made by your own browser. Phone play works without a server at all: the game travels in the link after the # mark, which browsers never send anywhere, and each phone deals its own card from the game number. The caller checks a win by dealing the same card again from its number. There is no list of players, because there is nowhere for one to be kept.

  • No sign-up for the host or the players
  • No names collected, ever
  • Your word list never leaves the device
  • No ads on the caller or on players' cards
  • No ads printed on the PDF
FAQ

Questions people ask

Anything we've missed?

How do I host bingo on Zoom?

Make a game here, paste the Play on phones link into the Zoom chat, and share your screen with the caller open. Players mark their cards on their phones, and you confirm wins by typing their card number.

Do players need an account or an app?

No. The link opens in any phone browser. There is nothing to install and no one enters a name or email.

Can two players get the same card?

Each phone picks a card number between 1000 and 9999, so two players landing on the same card is unlikely but possible in a large game. If a number appears twice, the second player can tap New card.

Is it really free?

Yes. Every theme, any number of cards up to 500 at a time, the caller screen and phone play are free, with no account. The pages carry ads; the printed cards, the caller screen and the players' phone cards never do.

Are the cards actually different from each other?

Yes. Each card in a game is checked against every card before it, and a repeat is thrown away and redrawn, so no two card numbers in one game carry the same squares in the same places. With a small word list the cards will still share many words — they simply sit in different places.

How do I check a winner?

Every card is printed with a card number and a game number. On the caller screen, type the card number into Check a card: it rebuilds that card from the game number, marks what has been called, and names any line, corners or blackout it has completed. You never need to collect the card.

Does anything get uploaded?

No. The cards and the PDF are made in your browser. Phone play works by putting the game in the link itself, after the # mark, which browsers do not send to any server. There are no accounts and no player names.
