The short answer

To make a birthday puzzle online, add a photo, choose 24–100 pieces, type a message and tap Send. The birthday person gets a link, solves the puzzle in their browser, and your message appears with confetti when they finish.

How it works

From photo to gift in a minute

  1. Step 1: Add a photo

Choose a photo from your phone or computer. A shared memory works best — a trip, a night out, the two of you as kids.

  2. Step 2: Pick the pieces

48 pieces takes most people five to fifteen minutes. Go bigger for a puzzle fan, smaller for a child.

  3. Step 3: Write the message

It stays hidden until the last piece goes in, so it can be the surprise: plans for the day, a gift hint, or just how much they mean to you.

  4. Step 4: Send the link

Copy it into WhatsApp, a text or an email. The photo is encrypted in your browser before it leaves your device.

Ideas

Ways people use it

  • The long-distance birthday

Send it before a video call and watch them solve it live. The reveal lands while you are both on screen.

  • The gift hint

Use a photo of where you are taking them, cropped so it isn't obvious until most of it is done — then the message confirms it.

  • The throwback

A childhood photo is a good puzzle and a better surprise. Keep the pieces low so it comes together quickly.

  • The group card

A photo of everyone, with a message signed by all of you. One link to send in the group chat.

How many pieces

Pick by who's solving it

For a gift someone finishes in one sitting, 36–100 pieces works best. Times are a rough guide — busy pictures take longer than simple ones.

Even we can't see your photo

When you play, the photo is cut into pieces by your own browser and never uploaded. When you send it, your browser encrypts the photo and message with a new random key before anything leaves your device. The key is written into the link after the # — the part of a web address that browsers keep to themselves and never send to a server. We store a file we cannot open, and delete it after 30 days.

  • Playing uploads nothing
  • Shared photos are encrypted with AES-256 in your browser
  • The key lives only in the link, never on our server
  • Encrypted copies are deleted after 30 days
  • No ads on the puzzle board or the reveal
  • Your photos are never shown in any gallery
FAQ

Questions people ask

Anything we've missed?

How many pieces should a birthday puzzle have?

For a gift someone will solve in one sitting, 24 to 100 pieces works best. 48 is a good default — around five to fifteen minutes for most adults. Choose 12 to 24 for young children and 150 or more for someone who does jigsaws for fun.

Can they see the message before finishing?

No. The message is shown only when the last piece joins. It travels inside the encrypted link, so nobody else can read it either.

Do they need an app or an account?

No. The link opens in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer. There is nothing to install and nothing to sign up for.

How long does the link work?

Links last 30 days, then the encrypted copy is deleted automatically. Send it close to the day.

Is my photo uploaded?

Not when you play. The photo is read and cut into pieces inside your browser, and saved progress stays on your device. It is only uploaded if you press Send — and then it is encrypted first.

How does the private share link work?

Your browser encrypts the photo and message with a random key (AES-256-GCM). We store the encrypted file; the key is put in the part of the link after the #, which browsers never send to a server. Without the full link, the file is unreadable — including to us. Links expire after 30 days.
