Gun Milan gives a score out of 36 from the two Moon nakshatras; a real match reads the two charts too. What the score means, when a low score is cancelled, and the questions families bring.

Tell the chat above your birth date, time and place, and your question is read from the houses, grahas and dasha the tradition uses for it — free, computed in your browser, and never sent anywhere.

How Jyotish reads it

Which houses, which grahas

  1. Ashtakoota matching scores eight kootas from the two Moon signs and nakshatras: Varna 1, Vashya 2, Tara 3, Yoni 4, Graha Maitri 5, Gana 6, Bhakoot 7, Nadi 8 — 36 in all. Eighteen and above is conventionally acceptable.

  2. Nadi (8) and Bhakoot (7) doshas weigh more than their points, and each has classical cancellations — the same rashi lord, or the same nakshatra with different padas, for instance — that a bare score misses.

  3. Manglik dosha is read from Mars in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th from the lagna or Moon, and is matched Manglik to Manglik or cancelled by the texts' rules. It is a matching factor, not a curse.

  4. Beyond the kootas, a full match reads each chart's 7th house, Venus and navamsa, and the two dasha timelines side by side.

The answers

What the chart can say

Every question here is one of a few kinds. The tradition has a way of reading each kind; this is it, in the words the app uses.

Are we compatible?

Compatibility is scored from the two Moon nakshatras (Gun Milan, out of 36) and then read from both charts' 7th houses, Venus and navamsa. A score is a starting point; the cancellations and the two 7th houses decide.

Will it happen?

Whether a rishta is right is read from the gun score with its cancellations, Manglik matching, and the strength of the 7th in both charts. The texts call a match acceptable or not; they do not promise happiness.

When will it happen?

Timing in Jyotish comes from three clocks read together: the Vimshottari dasha (which graha's period is running and which sub-period), the transits of Jupiter and Saturn over the bhava concerned, and the year's activation of that bhava. A period is named when all three point the same way; the tradition names a window, never a date. For a match already found, the timing is read from both charts' 7th lords and their dashas together.

Why is it not happening?

A low score usually comes from Nadi or Bhakoot dosha, and both have classical cancellations. A rishta that keeps breaking is read from Venus and the 7th in each chart, not from the score alone.

Want to ask back, the way you would an astrologer?

The Jyotish app answers in your words — Hindi, Hinglish or English — from the chart on your phone, asks a question back when it needs to, and shows the placement and the rule under every sentence. Health, money and legal questions are declined, not guessed.

What to do

The upay the tradition gives

A remedy is aimed at a graha, and only at a weak or afflicted one — a strong graha needs none. These are the grahas most often behind this topic, with the free practices the Jyotish app lists; the kundli tool checks whether yours are weak before it suggests any.

  • Venus · Friday

karaka of marriage in both charts

Vedic: Worship Lakshmi on Fridays and give white sweets in charity.

Lal Kitab: Respect your spouse, and feed a cow before you eat.

  • Mars · Tuesday

when Manglik dosha is the question
