Fortune is the 9th house; the past life's residue is Ketu and the 12th; the purpose and the teacher are Jupiter. Questions of luck and of meaning are read from the same places, and here is how.

Tell the chat above your birth date, time and place, and your question is read from the houses, grahas and dasha the tradition uses for it — free, computed in your browser, and never sent anywhere.

How Jyotish reads it

Which houses, which grahas

  1. Fortune (bhagya) is the 9th bhava and its lord; luck 'opening' is read as the dasha of the 9th lord or of Jupiter, or Jupiter's transit over the 9th, the lagna or the Moon.

  2. The spiritual path is the 12th (release, moksha), the 9th (dharma) and Ketu, the karaka of detachment; Saturn in the 12th or Ketu in the 9th or 12th are the placements the texts name for a contemplative life.

  3. A guru is Jupiter and the 9th; the dasha of the 9th lord or Jupiter is when the tradition says a teacher tends to appear.

  4. Karma in the chart is read as the pattern of the whole rather than one placement; the reading describes tendencies, and never claims to know a past life.

The answers

What the chart can say

Every question here is one of a few kinds. The tradition has a way of reading each kind; this is it, in the words the app uses.

When will it happen?

Timing in Jyotish comes from three clocks read together: the Vimshottari dasha (which graha's period is running and which sub-period), the transits of Jupiter and Saturn over the bhava concerned, and the year's activation of that bhava. A period is named when all three point the same way; the tradition names a window, never a date. For a turn in fortune, the dasha of the 9th lord or Jupiter with Jupiter transiting the 9th, lagna or Moon is what the texts name.

Will it happen?

A yes-or-no question is read as a matter of strength, not fate: how strong the bhava is, where its lord sits, which grahas aspect it, and whether the navamsa agrees. The texts describe what a strong or afflicted house tends to give; they do not decree. A spiritual yoga is read from Ketu, Saturn and Jupiter's links to the 9th and 12th, and from the 12th lord's strength.

Why is it not happening?

A run of bad luck is read from the running dasha and Saturn's transit — most often Sade Sati — as a period with an end, not as karma to be paid.

What does my chart say?

Life purpose is described from the 9th and 10th houses, the strongest graha and the atmakaraka (the graha at the highest degree), in the register of tendencies; the chart suggests a direction, not a verdict.

Want to ask back, the way you would an astrologer?

The Jyotish app answers in your words — Hindi, Hinglish or English — from the chart on your phone, asks a question back when it needs to, and shows the placement and the rule under every sentence. Health, money and legal questions are declined, not guessed.

What to do

The upay the tradition gives

A remedy is aimed at a graha, and only at a weak or afflicted one — a strong graha needs none. These are the grahas most often behind this topic, with the free practices the Jyotish app lists; the kundli tool checks whether yours are weak before it suggests any.
