Board results, UPSC, NEET, JEE, a master's abroad. Education runs through three houses and two grahas, and competitive success adds a fourth. How the chart is read, and the questions students and parents ask.

Tell the chat above your birth date, time and place, and your question is read from the houses, grahas and dasha the tradition uses for it — free, computed in your browser, and never sent anywhere.

How Jyotish reads it

Which houses, which grahas

  1. Schooling is the 4th bhava, intelligence and the first degree the 5th, higher and specialised study the 9th. Mercury is the karaka of learning and of exams; Jupiter of wisdom, teachers and higher study.

  2. Competitive exams are read from the 5th and its lord, Mercury's strength, and the 6th (competition) and 11th (gains) supporting them; a dasha of the 5th lord or Mercury is the classical time of success.

  3. Study abroad is the 9th (long journeys, higher learning) and the 12th (foreign lands) together, with Rahu or the 12th lord linked to the 4th or 9th.

  4. Which course suits is read from the 5th house's rashi and lord and the strongest graha, as for career: Mercury for commerce and language, Mars for engineering and medicine, Jupiter for law and teaching, Venus for the arts.

The answers

What the chart can say

Every question here is one of a few kinds. The tradition has a way of reading each kind; this is it, in the words the app uses.

When will it happen?

Timing in Jyotish comes from three clocks read together: the Vimshottari dasha (which graha's period is running and which sub-period), the transits of Jupiter and Saturn over the bhava concerned, and the year's activation of that bhava. A period is named when all three point the same way; the tradition names a window, never a date. For exams and admission, the dasha of the 5th or 9th lord or of Mercury, with Jupiter transiting the 5th or 9th, is the window.

Will it happen?

A yes-or-no question is read as a matter of strength, not fate: how strong the bhava is, where its lord sits, which grahas aspect it, and whether the navamsa agrees. The texts describe what a strong or afflicted house tends to give; they do not decree. Success in an exam is read as likely when the 5th and its lord are strong, Mercury is well placed and the 6th supports competition.

Why is it not happening?

A break in studies or repeated failure is read from Saturn or Rahu on the 4th or 5th, a weak Mercury, or a dasha unconnected to learning — a period, and it turns.

Which of the two?

Between two courses or two exams, the reading compares which house and graha each belongs to against the chart's strengths and the running dasha; it weighs, it does not choose for you.

For yourself

Want to ask back, the way you would an astrologer?

The Jyotish app answers in your words — Hindi, Hinglish or English — from the chart on your phone, asks a question back when it needs to, and shows the placement and the rule under every sentence. Health, money and legal questions are declined, not guessed.

What to do

The upay the tradition gives

A remedy is aimed at a graha, and only at a weak or afflicted one — a strong graha needs none. These are the grahas most often behind this topic, with the free practices the Jyotish app lists; the kundli tool checks whether yours are weak before it suggests any.

  • Mercury · Wednesday

    karaka of learning and exams

Vedic: Worship Ganesha on Wednesdays and feed green grass to a cow.

Lal Kitab: Respect your sisters and daughters, and do not keep broken utensils at home.

  • Jupiter · Thursday

karaka of higher study and teachers

Vedic: Chant "Om Brihaspataye Namah" on Thursdays and give yellow food in charity.

Lal Kitab: Apply a saffron tilak, and serve your guru or elders.

Free practices, done at home, for a graha that is weak in your chart; nothing is sold and no gemstone or puja is recommended. Not medical, financial or legal advice.
