Promotion, switching jobs, going into business, the arts as a career — questions of growth rather than of getting in. How the 10th house and the chart's strongest graha answer them, and the questions people ask.

Tell the chat above your birth date, time and place, and your question is read from the houses, grahas and dasha the tradition uses for it — free, computed in your browser, and never sent anywhere.

How Jyotish reads it

Which houses, which grahas

  1. Growth in a career is the 10th house strengthened by its lord and by Jupiter; recognition is the Sun; money from it is the 11th. A promotion comes in a dasha linked to the 10th or 11th with Jupiter transiting the 10th, the 11th or the lagna.

  2. Business against job is read from the 7th (partnership, trade) and the 10th against the 6th (service), and from Mercury and Mars. A strong 7th and Mercury lean to business; a strong 6th and Saturn to service.

  3. The right field is read from the 10th house's rashi and lord, the grahas in the 10th and the strongest graha of the chart: Mercury for writing, trade and analysis; Venus for the arts and design; Mars for engineering and the forces; Jupiter for teaching, law and finance; Saturn for labour, land and long projects.

  4. A career change is read from the dasha turning to a graha in a different house, and from Rahu, which brings the unfamiliar.

The answers

What the chart can say

Every question here is one of a few kinds. The tradition has a way of reading each kind; this is it, in the words the app uses.

When will it happen?

Timing in Jyotish comes from three clocks read together: the Vimshottari dasha (which graha's period is running and which sub-period), the transits of Jupiter and Saturn over the bhava concerned, and the year's activation of that bhava. A period is named when all three point the same way; the tradition names a window, never a date. For a promotion, the dasha of the 10th or 11th lord with Jupiter transiting the 10th or 11th is the window the texts name.

Will it happen?

A yes-or-no question is read as a matter of strength, not fate: how strong the bhava is, where its lord sits, which grahas aspect it, and whether the navamsa agrees. The texts describe what a strong or afflicted house tends to give; they do not decree. A change of job or field is read as likely when the running dasha lord sits in, or rules, a different house from the last one.

Why is it not happening?

A stalled career is read from Saturn's delay on the 10th, a weak 10th lord, or a dasha of a graha unconnected to work — a period with an end date.

What should I do?

Which field suits is described from the 10th house and the chart's strongest graha, as a range of fields rather than one job title. The reading suggests; it does not assign.

How will it go?

Whether business or job goes better is read from the 7th and 6th houses and from Mercury and Saturn's strength.

What to do

The upay the tradition gives

A remedy is aimed at a graha, and only at a weak or afflicted one — a strong graha needs none. These are the grahas most often behind this topic, with the free practices the Jyotish app lists; the kundli tool checks whether yours are weak before it suggests any.
