Foreign settlement, a visa in the balance, a move to another city. The 12th house is foreign lands, the 9th long journeys, the 3rd short ones, and Rahu is the graha of everything unfamiliar. How it is read, and what people ask.

Tell the chat above your birth date, time and place, and your question is read from the houses, grahas and dasha the tradition uses for it — free, computed in your browser, and never sent anywhere.

How Jyotish reads it

Which houses, which grahas

  1. Foreign residence is the 12th bhava; long journeys and higher purpose abroad the 9th; short moves and relocation the 3rd and 4th. Rahu is the karaka of foreign lands and of the unfamiliar; the Moon and Venus of movement and comfort.

  2. Videsh yoga is read when the 12th lord links to the lagna, the 4th or the 9th, or Rahu sits in the 12th, 9th or 4th, or the lagna lord sits in a movable rashi in the 12th.

  3. A visa is read as a timing matter: the dasha of the 12th or 9th lord or of Rahu, with Jupiter or Saturn transiting the 12th or 9th, is when the door tends to open.

  4. Settling permanently against travelling is read from the 4th (the home) against the 12th: a 4th lord in the 12th reads as home abroad; a strong 4th reads as return.

The answers

What the chart can say

Every question here is one of a few kinds. The tradition has a way of reading each kind; this is it, in the words the app uses.

When will it happen?

Timing in Jyotish comes from three clocks read together: the Vimshottari dasha (which graha's period is running and which sub-period), the transits of Jupiter and Saturn over the bhava concerned, and the year's activation of that bhava. A period is named when all three point the same way; the tradition names a window, never a date. For going abroad, the dasha of the 12th or 9th lord or of Rahu, with Jupiter transiting the 12th or 9th, is the window.

Will it happen?

A yes-or-no question is read as a matter of strength, not fate: how strong the bhava is, where its lord sits, which grahas aspect it, and whether the navamsa agrees. The texts describe what a strong or afflicted house tends to give; they do not decree. Foreign settlement is read as likely when the 12th lord links to the lagna or the 4th, or Rahu sits in the 12th, 9th or 4th.

Why is it not happening?

A visa refused or a move that keeps falling through is read from Saturn on the 12th or 9th, a weak 12th lord, or a dasha unconnected to those houses — a period with an end.

What should I do?

Whether to move is weighed from the 4th against the 12th and the running dasha; the reading describes what each choice tends to bring, and leaves the choice.

What to do

The upay the tradition gives

A remedy is aimed at a graha, and only at a weak or afflicted one — a strong graha needs none. These are the grahas most often behind this topic, with the free practices the Jyotish app lists; the kundli tool checks whether yours are weak before it suggests any.

  • Rahu · Saturday

    karaka of foreign lands

Vedic: Chant "Om Rahave Namah" and worship Durga.

Lal Kitab: Keep a solid silver ball with you, and float coconut in flowing water.

  • Jupiter · Thursday

the transit that opens the 9th and 12th

Vedic: Chant "Om Brihaspataye Namah" on Thursdays and give yellow food in charity.

Lal Kitab: Apply a saffron tilak, and serve your guru or elders.
