Plainly: Mood & Symptom Tracker · Effective Tuesday, 22 September 2026

Plainly is a mood tracker. Your record stays on your phone unless you sign in and sync. Your notes stay on your phone unless you separately turn note sync on. Nothing you log — no mood, symptom, topic, note or cycle day — is ever given to an advertiser or used to choose an ad. You can export or delete everything at any time.

Not a medical device

Plainly does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition, and nothing it shows is a measurement of your health. It has no AI companion, chatbot or generated advice. For medical advice, consult a healthcare professional. If you are in danger, contact your local emergency number; the app lists support resources under You → Support resources.

What Plainly stores, and where

Data Where it lives Why
Check-ins: mood, optional word, symptom ratings, triggers, medication taken or skipped, time On your phone. In your private cloud space only if you sign in and sync To show your record back to you
Rough patches: start, end and kind Same as check-ins Same
Notes you write On your phone. Removed from anything sent to the cloud unless you turn on “Also sync my notes”, which is off by default Your own record
The topics you chose, for example Anxiety or Cycle & hormones On your phone To show the right symptoms. We treat a topic choice as health data
Your name for the greeting On your phone only. Never synced To greet you on the Today screen
Settings: reminder times, streak pauses, theme, app lock, ad frequency counters On your phone To make the app work
Sleep, steps and cycle day from Health Connect (Android, optional) Read on your phone when you connect it. Read-only: Plainly never writes to Health Connect To show last night’s sleep and yesterday’s steps beside your day, and cycle day in the cycle view. Never used for advertising
Google account identifier and email address, only if you sign in Firebase Authentication (Google) To keep your cloud space yours alone

Plainly has no analytics and no crash-reporting service. We do not see your record.

Signing in and sync (optional)

No account is needed to use Plainly. If you choose “Continue with Google”, we use Google Firebase Authentication to sign you in and Google Cloud Firestore to hold a copy of your check-ins and rough patches. That copy is stored in Google’s European multi-region (eur3), encrypted in transit and at rest, and access rules allow only your signed-in account to read or write it. Syncing never deletes an entry: where two phones differ, both versions are kept.

You can delete the cloud copy at any time from You → Account & backup → “Delete cloud copy”. Your phone keeps its own copy until you delete that too.

Advertising (free version only)

The free version shows a small number of ads from Google AdMob, in a few places away from your check-ins. Plainly Pro has no ads.

  • We request non-personalised ads only.
  • We do not collect or use the advertising ID.
  • Nothing from your record — no mood, symptom, topic, trigger, note, cycle day or Health Connect value — is ever sent with an ad request. The part of the app that talks to the ad network is built so that it cannot read your record.
  • Where the law requires it (the EEA, the UK, Switzerland and some US states), you are asked for consent through Google’s consent tool before any ad loads.

To show an ad at all, Google’s SDK receives technical information such as your IP address, device type and approximate region. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.

Purchases

Subscriptions are sold through the App Store or Google Play, which handle payment; we never see your card details. We use RevenueCat to check whether a subscription is active. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user identifier and your purchase history for Plainly — nothing from your record.

Notifications

Reminders are scheduled on your phone at the times you set. Their wording is fixed and never contains a mood, symptom, topic name or number.

Who else processes data

Provider What for When
Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore) Sign-in and sync Only if you sign in
Google AdMob and Google’s consent tool Non-personalised ads Free version only
RevenueCat Subscription status When purchases are available
Apple App Store and Google Play Distribution and payment Always

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share health data with anyone for advertising or data mining.

What you log about your mood and health is special-category data. We process it only on your phone, or — if you sign in and sync — on the basis of your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time by signing out and deleting the cloud copy. Ads are shown on the basis of your consent where consent is required. If you are in India, we handle personal data in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

Your choices and rights

  • See and take your data: You → Export gives you everything as a CSV file; You → Account & backup makes a full backup file.
  • Delete: You → Data vault deletes the record on your phone. “Delete cloud copy” deletes the synced copy. To have your sign-in account itself removed, write to us and we will delete it within 30 days.
  • Depending on where you live you also have rights of access, correction, portability, restriction and objection, and the right to complain to your data-protection authority.

How long we keep it

Data on your phone stays until you delete it or remove the app. The cloud copy stays until you delete it or ask us to delete your account.

Age

Plainly is for people aged 16 and over, and asks you to confirm this when you start. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.

Changes to this policy

If anything here changes, we will update this page and revise the date at the top. A material change — one that affects what data is collected or how it is used — will be noted in the app before it takes effect.
